14 Questions....with Sam McKinney

Sam McKinney is a long-time member of our brewery crew.  Recently, Sam was promoted to the position as our Cellar & Packaging Director.  In addition to his role as brewer, Sam is also tasked with the important duties of filtering beers, getting beer ready for sale, and keeping the brewery organized, especially in terms of planning out our efforts with our cans and bottles.  With a background in botany and science, Sam has been working in the brewery since 2006 and is a key part of our team. He also quite possibly is sporting the best beard in the brewery business!

Where did you grow up?
Enid, Oklahoma.

Where was your first job in the beer world?
Cellarman at Big Dog's (2006).

What's your favorite beer style that you enjoy the most?
Pilsner.

Do you have an out-of-town brewery or brewpub that you like to visit? What do you like most about it?
Pizza Port in Carlsbad, CA.

What are your favorite Big Dog's Brews that we make?
Peace, Love & Hoppiness Pale Ale.

What is your favorite food and beer pairing?
IPA and pizza.

What craft beers are in your refrigerator right now?
Trumer Pils and Citra Rye from Henderson's Joseph James.

What is your favorite thing to eat at the brewpub?
Pizza.

Who is your favorite musician or band?
Primus.

What is the farthest from home you've travelled to visit a brewery?
Maine.

What was the last movie you saw?
Pee Wee's Big Holiday.

What gets you excited about being in the craft beer world?
New hop varieties I havent tried.

Anything in particular you are looking forward to doing at Big Dog's in the coming year?
Sour beers and barrel aged stuff.
